- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder no aluminum, fresh
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- 3 oz about 1 slightly heaping cup extra sharp white cheddar cheese, finely grated and cold
- 3 tablespoon diced chives plus more for the top, optional
- 3 tablespoons butter optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a liquid measuring cup, measure the cold buttermilk and place it in the freezer to chill while preparing the other ingredients.
- Melt butter in a small bowl in the microwave and allow it to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
- After chilling, remove the buttermilk from the freezer and add the melted butter, mixing until the texture is clumpy.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring with a rubber spatula until mostly combined with some streaks of flour remaining.
- Fold in the cheese and chives gently, being careful not to overmix.
- Using a ¼ cup scoop, portion the biscuit dough onto the prepared baking sheet to make about 12 biscuits.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool for at least 5 minutes, then brush with additional melted butter, sprinkle with chives, and serve warm.
