Description

This Classic Salisbury Steak features irresistible flavors with simple prep. Made with ground beef, mushrooms, and savory gravy, it’s an easy comfort food perfect for any weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef 85/15 works best (453.6 grams)
  • 1/2 small yellow onion grated fine
  • 1/2 cup italian seasoned breadcrumbs (56 grams)
  • 1 large egg whisked
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 small yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • dash ground black pepper
  • 4 ounces white button mushrooms sliced (113.4 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 3 cups beef broth (680.3 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, ground mustard, and black pepper.
  2. Divide the mixture into four oval-shaped patties of about 1/2 inch thickness. Set these aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties for about 2 minutes on each side, then remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. Melt the butter in the skillet, then add the diced onion and minced garlic. Season with salt and pepper, and sauté for about 3 minutes. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they are tender, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture and toss to combine. Gradually add the beef broth, scraping the browned bits from the skillet while stirring. Stir in the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Increase the heat to bring to a simmer, then reduce it and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Return the patties to the skillet along with any accumulated juices from the plate, cooking for an additional 5 minutes or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy thickens.

Notes

Ensure not to overcook the patties initially, as they will finish cooking in the gravy.
Feel free to adjust seasoning and add herbs for a personal touch.
Serve over mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
